Minister Giovannini with a decree that distributes the complementary fund to the NRRP (Decree 363/2021) has allocated about 1.5 billion for the safety and upgrading of regional railways. Of these funds, more than a third, EUR 546 million were ‘destined to the Campania Region and specifically to EAV, which presented, thanks to the Mobility Directorate and the active push of the Managing Director for Transport Luca Cascone, important and strategic projects, in particular for the future of the Vesuvian lines’.
This was made known by the press office of the Ente Autonomo Volturno, specifying the breakdown of resources: EUR 170 million for the technological upgrading and safety of tunnels; EUR 120 million for the Intelligent Traffic System; EUR 80 million for the upgrading of the Castellammare/Sorrento section; 176 million for the renewal of the rolling stock. The note states that "these are works that will finally determine a modern face to the existing railway infrastructure with consequent benefits for traffic and users. The tenders will start shortly and the works will have to be completed by 2026”.
