The meeting, promoted by the Campania Region with the Representatives of the Seven Inner Areas – Alto Matese, Alta Irpinia, Cilento Interno, Fortore Beneventano, Sele-Tanagro, Tammaro-Titerno and Vallo di Diano – aimed at the operational definition of the intervention ‘Valorisation of tourist destinations in the Inner Areas’.
The initiative, of total value of €4.2 million, was granted funding by the Ministry of Tourism, the first in Italy, which awarded the Campania Region a co-financing of EUR 2 million from the Fondo Unico Nazionale per il Turismo. A further €2.2 million is guaranteed by the Rotation Fund under Law 183/1987, under the Cohesion Agreement.
During the meeting, the criteria for allocating resources were shared, according to a mixed approach: a fixed quota of 50% evenly distributed among the seven Inner Areas to ensure a homogeneous minimum level of resources; the remaining 50% allocated on the basis of two structural indicators, of which 25% population density (as a measure of population pressure) and 25% the tourist accommodation rate (beds per inhabitant), with a view to rebalancing supply and strengthening less well-equipped areas.
On the basis of the distribution simulation, the resources are distributed as follows:
- Alta Irpinia (Avellino): 491.043,35 €
- Cilento Interno (Salerno): 503.812,13 €
- Tammaro-Titerno (Benevento): 586.569,15 €
- Vallo di Diano (Salerno): 574.677,96 €
- Alto Matese (Caserta): 641,523,16 €
- Sele-Tanagro (Salerno): 548.687,45 €
- Fortore Beneventano (Benevento): 653.686,79 €
The intervention aims to support investments to improve the accessibility and usability of places of tourist interest, enhance destinations outside the traditional circuits and promote greater seasonal adjustment of flows, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy of the Inner Areas: combating depopulation, territorial rebalancing, sustainable development and social inclusion.
The actions will be developed in co-design with the lead bodies of the seven Internal Areas and integrated with the respective Area Strategies, which are currently being completed.
“€4.2 million to boost tourism in the inland areas of Campania. The Region is ready: now we proceed to the definition of the distribution of resources among the seven territories involved.
We equip these territories, in line with President Fico's approach, with concrete resources to transform their extraordinary potential into real development, counteracting depopulation and reducing the historical gap with coastal areas, with villages, nature and culture as engines of growth. The meeting represents a key operational step for the start-up of the interventions, which will be carried out with a view to networking, innovation and sustainability, strengthening the strategic role of the Inner Areas in the overall development of the regional tourism system’, he said. the Campania Regional Councillor for Tourism, Enzo Maraio.
