At the Sala De Santis of the Campania Region a meeting was held on Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking (CAJU).

The meeting was an opportunity to present the second Clean Aviation Call for Proposals, provide an overview of the the Clean Aviation Programme and strategic technological axes for the Climate Neutral Aviation 2050, discuss the relaunch of the Strategic plan on synergies with European aviation regions.

To achieve Europe’s climate neutrality by 2050, as part of the Green Deal strategy, Europe has adopted a number of proposals to transform climate, energy and transport policies.

To help achieve these goals, the CAJU, the European Union’s main research and innovation programme to transform aviation towards a sustainable and climate-neutral future, has set out a very ambitious innovation agenda based on three key axes:
• Regional hybrid electric aeroplanes – new (hybrid) electricity architectures and their integration
• Ultra-efficient short- and medium-range aircraft – innovative aircraft architectures, highly integrated thermal propulsion systems for disruptive fuel efficiency improvements
• Disruptive technologies to enable hydrogen-powered aircraft – harnessing the potential of hydrogen as a zero-carbon alternative fuel.

Clean Aviation kicked off on the basis of the success of Clean Sky 1 and 2, which will continue to operate until 2024. Clean Sky will provide more than 34 flagship demonstrators, more than 106 other demonstrators and more than 1000 technologies, while exploring synergies with other EU, national and private aviation research programmes.

The aim of the meeting was to stimulate the presence of Campania stakeholders in future projects, presenting the Clean Aviation program, the strategic technological axes for Climate Neutral Aviation 2050 and the main topics of the second call of the program, just published.

After the introduction of Valeria Fascione (disambiguation), Research, Innovation and Startup Councillor, Campania Region and Antonio Marchiello (disambiguation), an overview of the Clean Aviation programme and the strategic technological axes for climate neutral aviation 2050 was held by Mr D.Aniele Violated, strategy & programme officer of Clean Aviation JU. Bruno Mastantuono, Head of the Legal Unit, Clean Aviation JU and Clean Aviation spoke about Leonardo’s experience in call 1 and the perceived requirements for the next phases of the programme, followed by Marco Protti, Head of Advanced Research, Leonardo Aircraft, which focused its intervention on synergies and prospects for collaboration with European aeronautical regions in the context of the relaunch of the Strategic Plan. Luigi Carrino (disambiguation), President of the Campania Aerospace District presented the project ECARE – European Clean Aviation Regional Ecosystem.
