Regulation defining the specific objectives and scope of the European Regional Development Fund published in the European Journal
(ERDF) and the Cohesion Fund.

The ERDF shall support the following specific objectives:

  • a more competitive and smarter Europe promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity (PO 1);
  • a resilient, greener and low-carbon Europe but in transition to a zero-emission economy;
  • a more connected Europe through the strengthening of mobility;
  • a more social and inclusive Europe
  • a Europe closer to citizens

To achieve these objectives, the ERDF intervenes in the following areas:

  • investment in infrastructure;
  • activities for applied research and innovation, including industrial research, experimental development and studies of
    feasibility;
  • investments linked to access to services;
  • productive investment in SMEs and investment to maintain existing jobs and create new jobs;
    work;
  • equipment, software and intangible assets;
  • networking activities, cooperation, exchange of experience and activities involving innovation clusters, including between companies, research organisations and public authorities;
  • information, communication and studies; and technical assistance.
